Markets:

Stock futures were near flat Tuesday, with the major averages set to take a breather after a rally in the previous session following the U.S.′ capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and President Donald Trump’s call for American energy giants to invest in the oil-rich nation.

The 30-stock Dow closed at a record on Monday after the U.S. captured and ousted Maduro over the weekend, while Trump encouraged big investments from U.S. oil companies. Chevron and Exxon Mobil posted solid gains, and the S&P 500 energy sector posted its biggest one-day jump since July 8.

Nvidia on Monday said it is working with robotaxi operators in hopes of having them use the company’s AI chips and Drive AV software stack to power their fleets of autonomous vehicles as soon as 2027.

Strong start to the new year, and we enter today’s session holding setups in TE, RKLB, PATH, and VNDA.

The queue is igniting with force. Many of these names are sitting right on the edge of meaningful moves over the coming days and weeks. That said, we continue to respect price and flow. Confirmation matters — we stay patient and disciplined before overcommitting capital.

From an index perspective, SPY posted a sustained gap higher and is now working to fill the prior bear gap between 689.42–690.23. We feel constructive to the upside as long as price holds above 686, with a retest of that gap firmly in play. On QQQ, we want to see a decisive reclaim and hold above 620 to confirm broader tech participation.

What stood out yesterday was the return of disbelief. That’s encouraging. Disbelief is fuel — and this market continues to show signs of being protected on the downside rather than chasing upside.

Friendly reminder: “A market that is being protected from downside behaves very differently from one that is chasing upside.” If you’re waiting for this market to break solely because valuations are high, you risk missing what could still be one of the strongest runs ahead.  We have yet to hit the "chase" phase.
